Gold Hanger, Lower Bourne, Surrey
Gold Hanger is a substantial modern house of no great architectural merit. In terms of location and aspect however, the site has great merit, being situated on the very edge of a small and deep wooded valley. The living rooms of the house had no views over this highly attractive landscape and the clients commissioned us to design an area that took full benefit from this natural resource for themselves and for entertaining family and friends.
The solution was to link a 100m2 single storey deck house to the main building with a wrap around deck cantilevering over the top section of the slope. The new building is principally a glass box with a standing seam zinc flat roof punctuated with a large sliding roof light, that opens the centre of the space up to the air and to natural daylight.
